10 Must-Haves When Traveling With a Newborn

Traveling with a newborn doesn’t have to be chaotic. In fact, you may dread it thinking it’s not  an option. Don’t be deterred, it is. Whether it’s by plane, train, or automobile, these must-haves save you time and a headache when traveling with your newborn.  Newborns are unpredictable and you cannot plan for everything that may occur while traveling but this list provides you with 10 traveling must-haves for your newborn to make your journey easier and less stressful.

1. Patience

Not just a little, but an entire heap of patience is a must-have when traveling with a newborn. Crying and pooping are par-for-the-course when traveling with a newborn. If you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed, ask for help from your travel companions.

2. Sanitizer Wipes

A lifesaver is putting it mildly with sanitizer wipes. Not only are they good for wiping your hands, but they can be used for surfaces as well. These wipes come in alcohol-free options so, your hands won’t dry out.

3. Infant Travel Bed or Pack n’ Play

Of course, you want a clean and safe environment for your newborn to lay down and or sleep when traveling. Whether you are staying with family or in a hotel, an infant travelbed or pack n’ play are both great options. Both conveniently fold compactly and can be stored in a closet or under a bed.

4. Wash Bin for Bottles

A wash bin may seem unconventional, but this is a traveling must-have for washing and sterilizing your newborns bottles. If you don’t feel comfortable washing bottles in the bathroom sink at a hotel or in your family’s kitchen sink a wash bin fits the bill. There is no need to get anything fancy, a standard dish bin like this will  do and it collaspes too for easier carriage and storage.

5. Baby Disposable Diaper sacks – scented or non-scented

baby disposable diaper sacks can serve multiple purposes. They are essential for poopy diapers to mask the smell, but also are good for soiled clothing. Baby disposable diaper sacks are super handy and would serve way more purposes than you can imagine.

6. Insulated Cooler Bag

An insulated cooler bag is a traveling must-have for storing breastmilk, formula, and bottles. This bag is flexible enough for any mode of transportation and saves you from constantly needing ice. This bag also comes in handy when refrigerated space in your destination is limited or non-existent.

7. Disposable Changing Pads

Nobody wants to walk into a bathroom and see a filthy changing table. Even worse is traveling somewhere with no changing table. Disposable changing pads cut down on the germs that conventional changing pads pick up. For a limited germ experience lay the disposable changing pad down as a protective layer and then place your changing pad on top. You can always wipe down the conventional changing pad later.

If you do not have a bottle sterilizer or do not want to travel with one, an electric kettle is a traveling must-have. Use the electric kettle for sterilizing bottles, breastfeeding supplies, and other baby products. While you won’t eliminate all germs, you can feel safe about controlling them.

9. First Aid Kit

First Aid kit are traveling must-have especially with a newborn because you never know what type of emergencies you will encounter. No one wants to think an illness or injury will occur while traveling, but a first aid kit ensures you will be prepared if it does. Make sure to regularly stock your kit.

10. Blankets

You can’t predict the weather or the temperature of a room, for this reason blankets are a traveling must-have. Blankets can be used for everything from covering up your newborn to wiping baby’s face. Take several blankets with you in case you will not have access to a laundry facilities.
