Since having a child my life has COMPLETELY changed. And of course, people do tell you that. But in your little baby bubble, I don’t think you can actually understand the gravity of the responsibility you’ll be faced with and simply dismiss it.
Thus this article, in hopes that even just one reader will take in this information enough to use it when she needs to.
When people talk about your life changing (for good or bad!) the really important thing for you to take in is that even on the days that you find yourself utterly exhausted, overwhelmed and out of your depth, you will still feel an unbelievable feeling of love that will make it all worthwhile.
These are my 5 tips for getting through the hard days
1. Re-frame the sentences that start with “I have to… ” to instead start wIth “I get to… ” Because let’s face it, regardless of if it’s a natural pregnancy or you’ve been trying for months or years to fall pregnant through IVF, it is an absolute blessing when the end result is a child.
2. Lean on others for support, whether it’s your mom, your friends, or strangers online (and by that I mean things like a mom community, Facebook Moms and Bubs pages) They know exactly where you are, where you’ve been and probably where you are heading. Take comfort in the fact that others are there to support you and soak up their sage advice.
3. Get out of the house and find something new for you and bubs to do. This is even targeted at those mums who are anxious about heading out and about (like I was). It WILL be worth it. The look on their little faces as they experience something new is revitalizing. And you’ll finally get some photos of bubs (and hopefully you!) with a new backdrop!
4. At the end of the day, sit closely on the couch or in bed with your partner and devour all of the gorgeous photos you’ve taken of your little one. The best way to rid your mind of the negative is to swamp it with positives.
And finally,
5. It’s perfectly OK to close the toilet/bathroom/bedroom/pantry door and give yourself a minute to take a deep breath before dealing with whatever may be on the other side. You are NOT a failure. You just need to regain your strength in order for your super powers to shine again!
