I’m sure most soon-to-be moms and moms have heard of this term! And if not yet, if you are expecting, you will soon.
Pregnancy brain and mommy brain does really exist. Some moms feel less mentally clear or in a fog or just forgetful. In pregnancy, this is due to changes in brain regions and hormones and may last even a couple years after delivery. Mommy brain, is due to different reasons including change in hormones, usually stress hormones (increased cortisol), lack of sleep, diet changes, often lower iron, multitasking and also just as you are preoccupied learning so much new information with a new baby.
What to do? Take notes for everything even if you think you will remember and keep lists. For me, this was a life saver and actually stress reducer as I knew things were written down and there was less worry that you would forget something to do. Some moms even leave themselves voicemails if its easier than note taking. Also, it seems easier said than done, but try to get rest-even if short naps, and try to take breaks to relax- even if ten minutes to meditate or do something for yourself.
Mommy brain can last weeks, months, even years. Accept that you may blank on names, forget where you put your keys or other things (and yes I’ve found my keys in the freezer 🙂 ), but know you are not alone and you won’t forget the important things and the wonderful memories of being a mom!

I Pregnancy brain is definitely real and it lasted for over a year for me! The strategies you mentioned are a great way to keep on top of everything though.
Aren’t we lucky it doesn’t last forever:). Thanks for your input!
