Mommy Interview! – Karelea

What is your ideal vacation?

Since I live on the beach in the Bahamas with turquoise water surrounded by palm trees, my ideal vacation is skiing in the mountains! The adrenaline of speed while being surrounded by glittery snow, having a big high-calorie late lunch and finishing the day relaxing in the spa – is my kind of getaway.

What time do you wake up in the morning?
Normally at 7am to get my toddler ready for school activities and breakfast. Often I get lucky and sleep in because my husband takes over.

You go to a restaurant, what drink do you order?
Earl grey or green tea. I rarely drink alcohol, its never appealed to me.

If you could have one chore done for you everyday, what would it be?
I am very lucky, I have a housekeeper to delegate many tasks to, and I enjoy cooking myself. However, it would be nice to have a personal assistant to do my emails, social calendar and run time-consuming errands. But then, being a bit of a control freak – maybe I’m better off doing it on my own.

Funny or most memorable thing your kid(s) have ever done?
There are so many. My son likes to help me clean up and keep all the doors closed in the house! But his kisses are most precious.

You are in Walmart and see a mom in PJ pants with a baby only in diaper. Do you;
Smile and think “I’ve had one of those days”
Snap a pic and put it on people of Walmart?

It all depends. If its late evening/night-time – perhaps its an emergency run. If its day-time, this mom needs to learn time management, not my business. If its cold outside and her baby is only wearing a diaper, I’ll seriously go buy a warm onesie or blanket and give it to her! An act of kindness is stronger than judgement.

Would you rather babysit a kid who hates your kid or go on a playdate where you can’t stand the mom?
Go on a playdate with a mom I dislike. We are adults, we are mothers, we should do things for our kids selflessly and show example.

If motherhood was a movie, what would it be called?
Momzilla

Your kids are away for 24hrs, what would you do?
Sleep in. Spa. Relax and eat all day. Sleep. Become a hermit.

What is your perfect date night with your partner?
We travel and go out frequently, so to us – cuddling up after dinner at home and watching a movie is perfect. Me with a bucket of hot tea, him with his glass of red, our babies asleep.

How did you come up with your kid(s) names?
Markus and Aurelea names are both latin of ancient roman origin. My husband and I love history, meaning and the connection of the two names inspired by the emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius.

Most expensive and least expensive products you use for your child(ren)?
Most expensive would probably be clothing brand rather than products, but in terms of products I never go thrifty – I look for high quality ingredients for a reasonable price, products that are organic and safe. I am very discerning shopper, I research everything and make my own decisions. Price tags and brands are overrated.

If you could go back in time, what would you tell the younger you about your kid(s)?
Let go of your fears, you’ll be a great mom! You’ll evolve, learn, become stronger than you think because until you become a mother, you never know your potential.

What is your definition of a great mother?
Unconditional love. A great mother can take the place of many, but no one can take her place.
