A Letter To Work-From-Home Moms

Dearest ‘Work-from-Home’ Mama,

Today, we are thinking of you and admiring your strength.

Before Motherhood, it was quite difficult to imagine doing so many things at the same time and even when you found out that you had your little one inside of you, you probably thought ‘How hard could it be?’

Every day from dawn to dusk, your hands are full and you are on the move. Your days can only be described by action words because you are always so busy. When you tell people that you work from home while caring for your child(ren), you get one of these two responses; ‘Wow! How do you do it?’ or ‘Lucky you’ even though you do not feel ‘lucky’.

How do you do it? You honestly do not know but every single day, you wake up ready to tackle the activities of the day. You do not back down and you do not give up;

Until every deadline is met

Until every work meeting/work mate benefit from your wealth of knowledge

Until every chore is done

Until every child is fed

Until every child is given attention

Until every fight is broken up

Until night comes and everyone’s in bed

You do all this with little or no help so we understand how you feel when your partner comes home and asks what you’ve been doing all day while he was away ‘working’. You cannot even begin to explain all you’ve achieved that day because he probably won’t get it.

Listen, it might not feel like you are moving forward with your life at the moment but know that you are. You are building abilities that would become the core of who you are in the years to come. You are building your mental abilities, your multitasking ability and the ability to have a healthy work/life/family balance.

You, my darling can have it all – the career, the beautiful children, the adoring husband/partner, a great life. You can have it all but maybe not at the same time. You have to make your peace with this and enjoy this phase of life.

Enjoy being with your children all day because they won’t stay little forever.

Enjoy working from home in your PJs because you’d go back to wearing tight skirts and walking around in heels before you know it.

Enjoy the chores and make it your happy place. Let your mind wander while you are at it. Think beautiful thoughts because it is good for your mental health.

The goal is to enjoy this phase of your life but not get comfortable in it. You would move on to the next phase soon. The memories of now are all you’d have left.

We see you; we celebrate you and we are rooting for you!

Love,
