10 [more] Life Hacks for New Moms

Last year we provided you with 10 life hacks to help you traverse your new role as Moms. This year we simply couldn’t resist helping you out further with a few more ideas to hopefully make your days that little bit easier!

  1. Download ‘Weightless’ by Marconi Union
Dubbed the “perfect relaxing song” this song really is the answer to all of your worries. It can assist with a grumbly or restless bub, calming them or putting them to sleep within minutes. The original song is approximately 8 minutes, however there are multiple recordings available, including a 31 minute extended version and an incredible 10 hour long option (unofficial) that is perfect for those bubs that only sleep while music plays. Life saver!
  2. Put your phone on silent
If you miss a call and it’s important they will leave a message. Don’t fret ~ you can get back to them when you get a chance. Much better than disturbing a sleeping baby!
  3. Look into the different lullaby renditions available
It may just save your sanity! No more listening to Fisher Price music or ABC Kids show classics. The variety of renditions is amazing! You can purchase anything from Bob Marley to Queen to Bruno Mars to Beyonce. Not only will this give you some aural relief but it will also allow you to introduce some quality music to your baby’s world at a very young age. They may just wonder why they have such “old” music taste as they grow up!
  4. Take some form of music into the bathroom with you
Crying babies being heard in the shower, but no actual baby crying in reality, is a phenomenon that will haunt you for months, or years! Music may not drain out the fake cries but being able to relax enough to block out your motherly instincts will definitely help.
  5. Buy a exercise ball
If you find yourself with hip or back aches with bub getting older (and heavier) use a large blow up exercise ball to sit on while nursing, rocking or bouncing bub. It will take the pressure off your body while still giving the movement bub seeks throughout the day.
  6. Take ALL the photos
Whenever you’re out at a social event get your friends or family to take some happy snaps. It’s likely your phone will be filled with pics of bub but you’ll be lacking any with you in them. I’m lucky enough to have a hugely talented photographer for a sister-in-law so every time I get home from visiting the family she has a link to pics I didn’t even know she had taken.
  7. Take extreme measures to ensure bub always has their favourite toy on hand
When you notice bub become attached to a particular toy buy another one, or better yet, five of them! It’s likely this will become their comforter. When one goes missing or falls apart you can replace it easily, most likely without your little one noticing a thing. If you leave it until the loved item is no longer with us you could encounter all kinds of unsightly tantrums!
  8. Pick a day for regular tasks to take place
eg. Wash bed sheets on Sundays, water plants on Wednesdays, wash hair on Tuesday and Fridays, etc. It may sound silly but with bub in your life you may just forget some things (after all bub is now always taking priority) And no one wants to attend a Saturday morning event wearing a hat due to unruly or oil slicked hair!
  9. If your partner is home at dinner time say ‘yes’ to eating first (with hubby taking care of bubs)
Chances are you’ve woofed down breakfast and lunch like a prisoner not wanting someone to steel your feed so don’t feel bad for taking a few more minutes to enjoy your meal at the end of the day.
  10. Sing the alphabet song to bub at bedtime.
It’s a really easy song to remember and it’s never too early for bub to start learning. Until they are two years old their brain is a big sponge taking everything in. Why not sneak in some educational songs wherever you can!
