7 Ways To Get Some Alone Time As A Mom

Hi Moms! Taking time for yourself can make a big difference in your mental health. Everyone needs a break from time to time, but moms often don’t think they have the luxury of allowing themselves downtime. If you’re feeling frazzled and in need of some alone time, I’m going to give you some creative and sneaky ways to find a few moments of “me time.”

First of all, you need to start small. If you can’t manage to get out of the house for an hour, even just a few minutes of silence can do wonders for your mental health. So, the next time your spouse or partner is in charge of watching the kids, take advantage of that moment to just catch up on some reading, take a hot bath, or just sit and do nothing.

You can also use the classic “fake run to the store” trick. Have a partner, friend, or family member on call? Ask them to watch the kids while you take a “quick trip” to the store. While you are gone, take the opportunity to take a break from the world and grab some alone time. Sit in the car in silence or with music, go grab a cup of coffee or just walk around a store.

Another thing you can do is try to get your kids involved in some quiet activities. This could be anything from coloring to playing an educational game on the tablet. The key is to make sure that your kids are engaged in something and not interrupting you during those precious moments of peace.

I saw a hack on Instagram and I found it brilliant. If your kids are of age and have a chore they are not fond of, tell them you would be doing the chore in 10 minutes and remind you when it’s time. Chances are, they would do everything in their power to not “remind you” therefore giving you some moments of peace.

Another great trick is using playdates as your escape plan. Sure, it sounds a bit sneaky, but why not take advantage of the time when the kids are occupied? Whether it’s just a few moments alone in the park or a few hours of shopping time, it’ll give you the break you need.

You can also get creative with your scheduling. Is there something you’d like to do during a time when your kids usually need you? If you need to run some errands, try going at a time when your partner can watch the kids. Another option is to trade babysitting services with a friend. This way, you both get some free time while the kids get to spend some extra time with a loved one.

Finally, if you can’t seem to find the time during the day, take advantage of naptime! Put your phone away and use that time to do something that relaxes you. Put on some cozy clothes and just relax for a few moments. And if you can manage to squeeze in a nap or two, even better!

At the end of the day, finding some alone time may seem like a daunting task. But with a little creativity and some help from your friends and family, it’s totally possible! So don’t be afraid to steal away a few moments of “me time”—you’ll be glad you did!
