Do you think that letting your loved ones know there’s a bun in the oven is no big deal? Think again!
Pregnancy is a milestone for many excited and expectant parents and also for your loved ones. Sharing this with the world – most especially family and friends – allow them to partake in your happiness (when it’s right for you) and should be fun too. How ever you choose to make the announcement will be remembered for years to come.
The arrival of a newborn brings a change into couples’ lives, so it is no surprise that many people choose to celebrate the affair in their own way. First off, there’s a distinct sense of expectation and questions: ‘What would the first few months be like? How quick would we bond? What kind of mom would I be?’ and so much more. While these are good questions to ponder on, you’ll agree with us that it’s best to focus on the now. You want to practice living in the moment for that indescribable moment when you hold your baby for the very first time.

Next, there are countless baby names to choose from, baby products to purchase, a nursery to decorate, and a big checklist of things to be done before the big arrival. Best believe that list will stretch to infinity once your bundle of joy comes…but no worries, you’ve got this!
Whether you’re announcing to the soon-to-be daddy, grandparents, friends or uncles and aunts, you want to hit the right spot with your announcement. After all, where is the element of surprise if they see the announcement coming?
We know the current pandemic may make everyone socially distant from loved ones, so virtual announcements are more practical at this time. Rather than onsite gatherings to make your grand announcement, this list addresses things you can do from the comfort of your home and send to your loved ones wherever they may be. So, think video calls, pictures and digitally-based methods of communication.
So, what could you possibly do to announce your pregnancy in a creative way? Check these ideas out, and have fun settling for one!
1. Movie-poster themed announcement: Imagine that there’s a blockbuster movie about to hit the cinemas, starring your baby with you and your partner as co-actors. Get creative with the picture concept and title but don’t forget to mention the star of the project!
2. PUN it up: Puns and wordplays are a great way to get people thinking and then having their eyes light up upon realization. Let the message be carried subtly in the picture. If you have a cat, for instance, try something like this: ‘We’re letting the cat out of the bag!’ with that popular phrase, and have your cat pose for a picture with the sonogram, a onesie, or any other baby item of your choice.
3. Introducing a new ‘fan’: Whether it is football, basketball, or other activities that you and your partner share an undeniable love for, incorporate your baby’s arrival by including a baby-related prop like a mini jersey, skating or ski gear.
4. Go Techie: Take regular tech talk like ‘Software Loading or ‘Installing Application’ to another level by using them to announce your baby is on the way. We have no doubt that your family would be pleased to figure it out when you send them a picture with the words: ‘Baby in Progress’ or ‘Installing Baby (add your surname)’ with the sonogram or test kit featured somewhere in the background.
5. Dismissing alcohol: This is a classic style for pregnancy announcements. Whether it’s a bottle of booze or glass containing some wine, saying ‘No’ to liquor shows that you care a great deal for the baby you’re carrying.
6. Sibling Announcement: While we know that sibling rivalry can have negative connotations, we’re here for the positive and a fun, perfect twist to it would be having your child announce that they’re vacating the position of ‘Only Child’ or taking up the new role of ‘Big Brother or Sister’.
7. Gender Swap: Nothing could be more humorous than seeing a dad with a baby bump. We wish it was that easy to help women cope with the stress that comes with pregnancy. Seriously, though, your loved ones will not only be delighted to receive this good news, they’ll be laughing their hearts out as soon as they see Daddy-To-Be announcing his anticipated position.
8. Conception Comedy: From an illustration of sperms swimming towards an egg with the tag ‘Winner’ on the first to arrive or an image resembling the shape of a Fallopian tube with the words ‘Out in a bit!’ We bet you everyone who sees it will smile from ear to ear.
9. ‘Send help!’: Let’s be real. Caring for a baby is no easy feat, how much more when you’re expecting a bunch of them? A surprised face, a board with the words ‘Less Sleep coming soon’, or a call for help from your loved ones to help with the coming brood is a great way to let them know you’re expecting.
10. Your favorite movie lines: Using the most popular lines from your favorite TV shows is a great way to spread the news. If you’re a GOT fan, then you know that ‘Winter is coming’ signifies an important event in the movie. Likewise, what could be more important than the cute little one about to make a grand entry into your lives?
11. ‘Bump Ahead’: Certainly a good way to announce if you’re still in the early stages of pregnancy, the ‘Bump Ahead!’ announcement lets your loved ones know to expect a round belly soon and a baby in the near future.
12. Artsy design: From magnetic letters and clip art to paper cut designs, announce your EDD or arrange your baby’s name in a burst of colors. Heart-shaped paper art placed on the sonogram also makes for a creative way to share your good news in a fun, easy, and playful way.
13. Inscribe the news: Whether you’re breaking the news to the soon-to-be dad or grandparents, you can be sure that a surprise message at the bottom of a mug or on a T-shirt that says ‘You’re gonna be…’ gets everyone in their feelings. Keep some tissue handy because we guarantee you someone’s bound to shed a tear or two.
14. ‘What’s in your tummy?’ or ‘Eating for Two’: Having all members of the family baring their stomach with words of its content written over them is a great way to announce the family’s newest addition. For instance, daddy can have ‘Beer’, big brother or sister have ‘Cereal’, juice, or anything of preference while the expecting mom has ‘Baby’ on hers.
15. Show your naughty side: If anything, being real about the circumstances can be endearing, and we know family and friends are certainly down for some light-heartedness. A post that says “We’re going from ‘Netflix and Chill’ to Diapers and Milk” is sure to amuse everyone who sees it. Don’t be hesitant to tell your story. Wink!
16. Kids Training: If you have two or more kids, take a picture of your oldest teaching your youngest how to be a big sister or brother. This can be perfect for family, friends and even daddy as well. They’ll definitely take a minute to figure it out.
17. Pet Grooming: If you have a pet, incorporate them into the announcement idea, this would be a super fun memory for you and your family.
Finally, regardless of the distance, one thing is certain, Whichever way you choose to make the announcement, there’s a huge dose of love and goodwill for you and your baby. With all that this year has shown, we all need a large dose of cheerfulness; and breaking this news certainly makes it all better. Cheers!
